The St. Louis Cardinals offense shut out 2-0 by the Oakland A’s last (Wednesday) night at Busch Stadium.

The Cardinals put Tommy Edman in the leadoff spot in place of Matt Carpenter in the lineup with the hope of sparking the offense.


He went 2-4.

Adam Wainwright allowed 2 runs in 6 innings with nine strikeouts.

The Cardinals have now lost 3 straight.

The Kansas City Royals fell to the Cleveland Indians 5-3.

The Royals once again stirred it up in the ninth, scoring two runs, however with the tying run at the plate with 2 outs Whit Merrifield struck out.

The Vanderbilt Commodores are the new college baseball national champions defeating the Michigan Wolverines 8-2 in the College World Series last (Wednesday) night.

Vandy swept the Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament titles, set the league record for wins, tied the record with 13 draft picks and lost back to back games only twice on their way to the national championship.

The longest tenured ESPN Sports Anochor Bob Ley is announcing that he retiring from the network after 40 years.

He made the announcement yesterday (Wednesday) he joined ESPN as a Sports Center Anchor on September 9, 1979 the third day of the network’s operation.

Ley had taken a leave of absence in October and says he will retire at the end of this month.
