Mexico City Council Discusses Holt Street

The Mexico City Council approved a change order after it was discovered the sub-grade under Holt Street was not suitable for the innovative compacted concrete to be poured on schedule.

The roadway sustained a large amount of flooding after Mexico received and inch and a half rain.

In order to fix the problem, the contractor, Rhad Baker Construction, mixed concrete with soil and placed gravel on top before compacting it.

The change order was to approve payment to the contractor for the work that was completed prior to the meeting.

The pouring of the compacted concrete will begin Tuesday morning.

During the public comments, Verla Blanke spoke to the council about a lack of sidewalk on Adams Street. She said she is concerned about the safety of those who are forced to walk on the street to go to the pool, Fairground Park or the YMCA.

Also in the public comments, Cassandra Gould asked for an update on what is being done about sewer issues near the corner of Breckenridge and Tyronne Lue Boulevard. She reports there are times the odor is so strong she and her children suffer headaches and they have to stay in another location.

Kenzie Russell responded saying the issue is being investigated, and recently Ameren joined Mexico crews to find out if the smell was, in part, the odorant added to natural gas. Ameren will be conducting additional tests to ensure the gas line had not been hit with the telecommunications companies boring in the area.
