Cause Of Fire At Columbia Hospital Under Investigation

A small fire in an equipment room on the roof of Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia today is what prompted evacuations of the top floors. [Monday]

Crews were dispatched at 10:40 this morning after on-site staff discovered smoke in an elevator and stairwell.

Due to the size of the building and that it is a healthcare facility, the incident commander upgraded the call to a two alarm fire, requesting additional equipment and personnel.

The blaze was extinguished in approximately 10 minutes.

Fire investigators are on scene performing a fire origin and cause investigation.
