A hearing to address a request for a medical marijuana dispensary will be held by the Mexico Zoning Board of Adjustments this upcoming week.
JAD Properties is asking for a variance to operate a medical marijuana dispensary on their property at 1015 East Liberty which is the old Commerce Bank Building.
The variance is being asked due to the City of Mexico passing an ordinance recently saying such facilities can not be within 1000 feet of a primary or secondary school, day care facility, or church.
The JAD property is within 700 feet of the First Baptist Church.
Mayor Ayanna Shivers says people of the town are encouraged to attend the hearing on Tuesday, at 9 am to voice their concerns for or against the dispensary.
The hearing will take place at the Mexico City Hall at 300 North Coal Street.
