Excavation Of Landfill To Begin Monday

The Columbia Police Department held a press conference yesterday regarding Megan Schultz, who has been missing since August of 2006. [Friday]

After several meetings with the city’s Solid Waste Department, they have decided to excavate a 14 acre section of the landfill where trash is believed to have been dumped when Schultz went missing beginning on Monday.

During the search, they will be looking for dated items such as newspapers and postmarks to find out if further exploration of the area for evidence of her alleged murder is necessary.

Schultz’s ex-husband, Keith Comfort, indicated to police in Lake Geneva Wisconsin that he was responsible for her death and placed her body in a dumpster behind her home.

A health and safety plan has been established to prevent injury during the search.
