Audit Shows Taxpayer Money Used For Governor Office Defense

An audit released by the Missouri Auditor’s Office today [Wednesday] shows taxpayers paid more than $200 thousand to defend former Governor Eric Greitens’ use of the self-deleting text message app, Confide.

The lawsuit filed in 2017 alleged Greitens and his staff used the app to bypass Missouri’s open records laws.

The case was dismissed in July.

After Greitens resigned from the office last year, Nicole Galloway’s office conducted the routine audit.

The audit shows most of the money funded private attorneys to represent the governor’s office in the lawsuit.
