The Cole County Sheriff’s Office says they will be traveling throughout Jefferson City and Cole County on Halloween verifying that registered sex offenders are complying with Halloween restrictions.
The law requires offenders to avoid all Halloween-related contact with children, remain inside the residence between 5pm and 10:30 pm unless required to be elsewhere for just cause including employment or medical emergencies, the offender must have a sign posted stating no candy or treats at this residence, and all outside lighting my remain off during the evening hours.
Offenders that are not home are investigated further to verify their residency by checking mail delivery, vehicles at the residence and speaking with neighbors.
