Mexico High School Band Is Called The Mexico High School Marching Band This Year

The Mexico High School Band is marching to a new name this year.

Marci Minor, public information director for the district says changes were made following several Facebook petitions that were circulated in July.

Minor says the band is named the Mexico Marching Band this year, as the Mexico High School values the diversity of the their student population and strives to create an environment where all students feel safe and valued.

I can’t believe you would cave in and change the name of our band. I marched in the Mexico Dixie Grey band from 1958 to 1961 and I was a member of John Willers Dixie Greys from 6th to 12th grades. Our love for the band, the memories and John Willer have taken a kick to the stomach with this decision. I’m ashamed of you. Our voices mean nothing evidently.
