An emergency meeting was held by the Fulton City Council last (Tuesday) night to address the ongoing natural gas and electric wholesale cost increase.
The council reported they have paid over 2 million dollars over the last 4 days for natural gas.
Fulton’s natural gas usually costs around four dollars a unit.
According to Fulton city officials they are now paying two hundred and twenty five dollars a unit because of the shortage.
The money is coming from a reserve fund for natural gas emergencies.
According to Fulton Director of Administration Bill Johnson the problem stretches farther than just Fulton.
Residents are being told they should not see an increase in their energy bills at this time, however are encouraged to reduce their usage.
The issue is expected to be addressed again next week during a Fulton City Council meeting.
