KXEO Sports Report 7/22/21

 

Six Mexico Lady Bulldogs softball players brought home plenty of hardware after competing at the Heartland 18u World Series this past weekend in Olathe, Kansas.

Lady Bulldogs on the team included Eboni Mayfield- pitcher/1st base

Rylee Johnson-2nd base

Lexie Willer- CF

Taylor DeMint – SS

Karlee Sefrit- Catcher/3rd

Madeline Williams – Catcher/Right Field

Other players on the team included

Grace Pontius- South Callaway (2nd/outfield) Emma West- Booneville (3rd/outfield) Devyn Keller – Van-Far (utility player) Madyson Klostermann- Moberly (pitcher, 1st base) Aleksa Ortmeyer- Blair Oaks (Left field, 1st base)

The Head Coach was Heather DeMint, with assistant coaches Kevin Klostermann and Brooke Broughton.

They ended the season with a 22-13-2 record and took third place out of 18 teams.

Due to rain the Mexico girls played 3 games on Friday, then 4 games on Sunday, in Olathe, Kansas, then returned back to Mexico on Monday night for practice.

Several Mexico businesses paid for their hotel stay.

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-2 in extra innings at Busch Stadium last (Wednesday) night thanks to a walk-off single from Yadier Molina.

Adam Wainwright pitched 7 strong innings however did not figure into the decision.

The victory propelled the Redbirds back to .500 with a 48-48 record.

The Cardinals go for the series win against the Cubs tonight at 6:15.

The Kansas City Royals completed a 2 game series sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers with a 6-3 win on the road last (Wednesday) night.

Royals slugger Jorge Soler went deep for a second consecutive game, with a 438-shot to left field.

It was Soler’s third homer in his past 7 games.

The Royals are off today as they travel back to Kansas City to host the Detroit Tigers tomorrow (Friday) night.
