The CDC awarded Mizzou a $1.6 million grant to Hsun-Ta Hsu, an associate professor in the School of Social Work, whose team will use the grant to study the firearm violence exposure among young adults experiencing homelessness and how communities can best intervene. Previous research done by the team verified that young adults dealing with homelessness encountered firearms much more frequently and consistently than the general public.
Through survey and observation the team wants to learn how to provide safe space for homeless teens and discover the locations and means that puts them most at risk.
