KXEO Sports Report 2/9/23

Former Mizzou standout Steve Stipanovich is being named a 2023 Allstate SEC Basketball Legend.

The 7 foot center from St. Louis is a 1983 All-American and the 1983 Big Eight Player of the Year who steered four consecutive conference championships for the Tigers from 1980 to 1983 and two Sweet 16 appearances along with back-to-back first team All Big Eight honors in 1982 and 1983 after claiming Big Eight Newcomer of the Year recognition.

As a senior, he became Mizzou’s all-time leading scorer with 1,836 points and the all-time leading rebounder with 984 and today holds fourth all-time in scoring and field goals made.

Stipo was the second overall pick in the 1983 NBA draft and spent 6 seasons with the Indiana Pacers and remains the highest draft pick in school history.

He was inducted into the Mizzou Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990 and is one of only 8 players to have their jersey number retired.

The Van-Far Lady Indians come away with a lopsided win over the Lady Lions of Columbia Independent School yesterday evening, 58 – 9.

The JV Lady Indians are in action tonight in Hannibal.

There’s now some fur in the game on Sunday between two beloved mascots.

The bet between Kansas City Royals mascot Sluggerrr and the Philadelphia Phillies mascot Phanatic will see Sluggerrr travel to Philly and pose with the final score and work an event with Phanatic if the Eagles win.

If the Chiefs are victorious Sunday, Phanatic will come to KC to appear with Sluggerrr.

No word yet on whether KC Wolf and Eagles mascot Swoop have any bets going on the side.

KC Wolf by the way is the first mascot inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame and is the only active member of the Chiefs in the Hall of Fame.
