Soft Surroundings has provided a statement regarding the closing of their facility in Mexico.
An email sent out to KXEO news on Friday, August 4, 2023, reads over the course of the past year Soft Surroundings has done a lot of work to assess the company’s core needs and realign our priorities.
After many months of due diligence, assessment, and internal conversations, we’ve decided to improve our processes, streamline our logistics, and ultimately better serve our customers by partnering with XB Fulfillment.
This means that we will be proceeding with the closure fulfillment center in Mexico, Missouri.
That being said, we remain committed to supporting the community in Mexico, Missouri, impacted by the decision, and have provided clear communications over an extended timeline, held job fairs, and have supported recruitment and relocation for staff wherever possible.
KXEO News first broke this news story in June, when employees with the company said they received a letter with severance information and a last date of employment.
Soft Surroundings posted a notice to the Missouri Office of Workforce Development’s website recently saying they planned to close its distribution center located at 4655 East Liberty and layoffs for 79 positions will be conducted September 1st through September 15.
A new 300,000-square foot Soft Surroundings distribution center on Liberty Street was completed in December 2016.
Soft Surroundings sells women’s clothing, shoes and jewelry.
The Mexico facility was used to fulfill customers orders to all 50 states, as well as Canada, and also distribute products to its retail stores.
