The Mexico High School Cross Country Team hosted the Mexico Invitational at Green Estates on Friday, September 1, 2023.
Mexico Cross Country head coach Lucas Breneman reports “Cooler temperatures and a great crowd made for a fun evening of cross country racing Friday. Mexico ‘RUN DXC’ (dogs cross country) opened up their season with strong performances.
The girls raced first and had sophomore Maggie Ramsey lead the way with her 2nd place finish in the girls varsity race.
The girls team was missing a runner due to injury so they were unable to score as a team.
On the boys varsity side they were led by Junior Tyler Grimes who finished 8th.
Not far behind him were fellow teammates Sr Guy Fairchild 13th, So Brady McCoy 14th, Jr Davontate Frame 17th, and Jr Andrew Peuster 18th.
All of them earned medals by placing in the top 20.
As a team the boys varsity finished 2nd out of 10 losing only to a strong Centralia team.
The final race of the evening was the JV race.
Mexico continued its strong running with their very own Jr Hunter Bickell winning the race!
The boys JV team saw 7 runners earn medals and won the JV team title with a near perfect score of 19 points. (15 is perfect score).”
