In girls high school tennis yesterday (Friday), Mexico senior Katie Gooch had her high school career come to an end at the Class 1 state tournament in Springfield.

The first round started indoors due to the rain, however was eventually moved outside.

Gooch lost in the first round to returning state qualifier Elena Williams Jr from Lafayette County 1-6. 0-6.

Gooch then played a competitive second round falling to Meredith Goff from Ursuline Academy 3-6, 6-7, (4-7).

Mexico head coach Kim Costley says ” She has had a fantastic year and a great career. It is tough getting to the state tournament. State has been a goal for her for a long time and it was nice seeing her accomplish her goal. It takes a lot of dedication, sacrifice, and commitment. It doesn’t just happen…you have to work for it. We’re going to miss her. She is a sweet young lady that has grown so much. She has learned to compete. I’m so proud of this Mexico Bulldog as she is 1st class.”

Gooch finishes the year with a 20-7 record.
