Mexico Public Safety Releases Report On Crown Linen Fire

More details have been released after a fire at one of the Crown Linen buildings in Mexico on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Mexico Public Safety responded to the fire just after 11pm in the 200 block of South Jefferson Street.

Responding personnel found heavy smoke in the area and determined the smoke was coming from the Crown Linen building in the 100 block of West Promenade.

Personnel tried to gain entry to locate and extinguish the fire but flame started burning through the roof.

The fire was eventually extinguished with the involved building suffering serious fire damage and the attached buildings suffering light water and smoke damage.

The Mexico Street Department responded around 6am on Saturday and cleaned the sidewalks and streets around the building.

The section of the sidewalk nearest the building and part of the street were closed as Crown Linen moved equipment so they could continue operations.

Mexico Public Safety says an investigation determined the fire started in area where cloth items, often used to clean chemicals, were stored.

A Mexico Public Safety Officer received minor injuries on scene.

The officer was later examined by medical personnel and released from medical care.
