Mexico Man Accused Of Fatally Shooting His Brother Released From Jail After Audrain County Prosecutor Declines To File Charges At This Time
A Mexico man accused of fatally shooting his brother at a Mexico residence on Sunday, May 19, 2024 has been released from jail.
Mexico Public Safety provided an update in a news release this morning.
Public Safety investigated the shooting death of 36-year-old Christopher Welch in the 700 block of East Promenade in Mexico.
As a result, his brother, 30-year-old Stephen Welch was arrested and eventually taken to the Audrain County Jail to await the filing of formal charges.
On Monday, May 20, 2024, the Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney declined to file charges before the 24-hour deadline, and Stephen Welch was released.
The prosecutor requested that Mexico Public Safety Department continue its investigation into what happened so that his office can make a fully informed charging decision at a later date.
