An Audrain County home suffered extensive damage after a fire during the evening hours of Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
Little Dixie Fire Protection District responded to the house fire just after 9pm in the 14500 block of Audrain Road 9821.
All occupants of the residence were able to make it out safely before firefighters arrived.
Upon arrival Little Dixie firefighters found a residential structure fully involved with flame with a partial roof collapse.
Firefighters started an aggressive exterior attack due to heavy fire involved.
Crews were then able to enter and complete an interior attack.
An exact cause of fire is still under investigation.
A family dog is believed to have perished in the fire.
The home was owned by Lyle and Megan Knipfel.
Once the fire was extinguished firefighters were able to enter the basement and locate and retrieve the owner’s wedding dress.
Little Dixie responded with two-engines, three tankers, Rescue Squad and 26 firefighters.
About 10,000 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire.
The fire was listed as under control in about 45 minutes.
Crews remained for a period of time extinguishing the hot spots and other burning debris.
Crews cleared the scene at approximately 12:30am.
