Mexico Public Safety Responds To Fire On Railroad Property And House Fire In Two Separate Calls
Mexico Public Safety responded to two separate fires during the morning hours of Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
The first call came in around 8:22 on Wednesday, morning.
Officers responded in the area of the 900 block of West Liberty and found what appeared to have been a campsite burning in the tree line along the railroad tracks.
The fire was extinguished with no injuries or damage to railroad property.
Mexico Public Safety said an investigation indicated that 37-year-old Devin. M. Heinz and 27-year-old Amanda M. Walker, both of Mexico had been at the site just prior to the fire.
Both were arrested at various locations in Mexico later in the day.
They were processed at Mexico Public Safety Department and released pending the filing of formal charges of Trespassing on Railroad Property.
A second fire call came in around 11:15 yesterday (Wednesday) morning.
Mexico Public Safety responded to the 1100 block of Lakeview Road in reference to a structure fire.
Responding personnel found fire in the basement of a home.
The fire was contained and extinguished with the basement suffering significant fire damage and the rest of the house suffering serious smoke damage.
According to Mexico Public Safety it appeared the fire started in the area of numerous electrical appliances and tools on a craft table.
There were no injuries from the incident.
