Callaway County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Death Of Man Found Near Fire

An investigation is underway in Callaway County after a man was found dead near a fire during the afternoon hours of Monday, Mar. 10, 2025.

No foul play is suspected.

On Monday afternoon, a person called Callaway County Joint Communications about a fire near a home on County Road 1027.

The North Callaway Fire Protection District responded to the fire, with help from the Montgomery County Fire and South Callaway Fire Protection District departments.

Fire personnel found a man dead at the scene of the fire.

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office and deputies and investigators came to the scene.

A press release from the sheriff’s department said they do not suspect foul play, and believe the man died while tending to the fire.

The Medical Examiner’s office will perform an autopsy due to questions raised from the initial call.

On March 10, 2025, at approximately 2:52 PM, Callaway County Joint Communications received a report from a citizen regarding a possible unattended fire near a residence in the 1000 block of County Road 1027.
The North Callaway Fire Protection District responded, with mutual aid assistance from the Montgomery County Fire and South Callaway Fire Protection District departments.
At approximately 3:33 PM, deputies were notified that fire personnel had discovered a deceased individual at the scene. Callaway County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators responded to the location.
Preliminary findings indicate that an elderly man was tending to the fire when he passed away.
At this time, no foul play is suspected, however due to the circumstances involving the initial call the Medical Examiner’s office is assisting with the investigation and will be conducting an autopsy.
The investigation remains ongoing.
No additional information will be released.
The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
