Missouri Veterans Day ceremony

The United States Marine Corps marked its 250th birthday yesterday afternoon at the Missouri Capitol Rotunda.

Hundreds of Marines gathered with family and friends for the milestone celebration which included an honored tradition,
a ceremonial cake-cutting, with the first slice going to the oldest Marine present at 96 years old, and the second to the youngest, just 19.

Today in Jefferson City, state officials and military families gather at the Missouri Veterans Memorial on the north side of the Capital for a special Veterans Day ceremony starting at 11am.

A new obelisk honoring Missouri’s veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars was dedicated, while the Gulf War memorial was rededicated to include the conflict’s end date.

The $157,000 project was a collaboration between the Missouri Veterans Commission, the Office of Administration, and the State Capitol Commission.

Governor Mike Kehoe and several state leaders will join veterans and their families to pay tribute to those who have served and continue to defend our nation’s freedom.
