Shohei Ohtani announced on social media Monday night he plans to play for Japan in next year’s World Baseball Classic.

Ohtani led Japan to the 2023 title, striking out then-Los Angeles Angels teammate Mike Trout for the final out and earning tournament MVP honors.

He’s coming off a huge year—winning his fourth American League MVP and helping the Dodgers claim a second straight World Series.

Ohtani made a dominant return to pitching after Tommy John surgery, including one postseason game with 10 strikeouts and three home runs.

The WBC begins March 5, but Ohtani hasn’t said yet if he’ll pitch for Japan.
