Jury trials are now set for two Springfield residents accused in the 2021 killing of Columbia man Cody Garrett.
Court records show 35-year-old Kayley Birnbaum will stand trial August 10, and 28-year-old Michael Birnbaum on September 21 in Benton County Circuit Court.
Investigators say the Birnbaums planned Garrett’s murder, allegedly meeting him at Truman Lake Mountain Bike Park, where he was found dead in June 2021.
New DNA evidence led to their 2025 arrests.
Pre-trial hearings for both are scheduled for 11am Today.
A third suspect, 70-year-old Jack Wagner, also faces first-degree murder charges, and armed criminal action and is being held in Benton County Jail. His case has been moved to Henry County.
