One person is dead after a shooting Wednesday afternoon in central Columbia.
Police say they responded to multiple 911 calls around 3:45 p.m. near Allen and Bryant streets, just west of Providence Road.
Officers rushed to the scene and provided medical aid, but 20-year-old William Riechers of Columbia died from his injuries.
Nearly all on-duty officers were called to assist.
No arrests have been made, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The nearby schools Hickman and Douglass High, Ridgeway, and Grant Elementary were briefly placed on secure status, but classes were not directly involved.
The investigation is Ongoing.
