A Cooper County grand jury has indicted two men in last month’s armed robbery at the Isle of Capri Casino in Boonville.
Twenty-one-year-old Benjamin Charles faces charges including first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. He’s pleaded not guilty.
Twenty-year-old Hollis Vanleer faces similar charges along with assault and remains on the run.
Investigators say the suspects stole more than $1.2 million, using an AR-15-style rifle and a semi-automatic pistol before fleeing in a car later found abandoned.
Investigators reportedly found a receipt in the vehicle that allowed them to identify the cardholder as Charles.
Charles, a casino employee, allegedly admitted planning the heist and identified Vanleer as his accomplice.
The FBI and ATF are assisting the Missouri State Highway Patrol with the investigation.
