Dispute leads to stabbing, Columbia man jailed

A Columbia man is facing multiple charges after a stabbing that left one person seriously injured.

Police say 44-year-old Grant Buxton appeared in court Monday, charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, and drug possession.

Officers responded Friday just after noon to an assault in progress on Richardson Street, where they found Buxton on a balcony.

Investigators say the incident started over a dispute involving a basketball pump, which escalated into a physical altercation.

During a search of Buxton’s apartment, officers also reported finding methamphetamine.

He is currently being held in the Boone County Jail without bond.
