Mexico Public Safety rescued a 29-year-old man from an apartment fire Sunday evening.
Crews responded around 6 p.m. to the 1200 block of West Breckenridge Drive, where flames were coming from a second-story bedroom.
Firefighters located the resident, who has impaired vision, in a bedroom across the hall and removed him using a ladder.
The fire was contained, but the apartment sustained heavy damage.
The man was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say the fire was likely caused by smoking inside the apartment.
