24-Hour Demolition Set for Providence Bridge

MoDOT is preparing to replace the Providence Road bridge over I-70 in Columbia, with construction set for May 29th and 30th. The project will bring major traffic impacts as crews demolish the existing overpass in about 24 hours, followed by four to five months of rebuilding.

The bridge connects north and south Columbia and serves as a key entrance to the Business Loop. Along with safety upgrades, the project includes decorative lighting, new railings, and other design features to improve the corridor’s appearance.

The Business Loop Community Improvement District is contributing $100,000 toward beautification, with additional funding from MoDOT, the city, and community donations. Leaders say the disruptions could also bring more drivers through the Business Loop, creating an opportunity to highlight local businesses.
