Suspect kills himself after shooting, chase

An afternoon that started with Columbia Police and Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies responding to a shooting incident near the 5100 block of North Douglas Drive, transitioned into CPD, Sheriff’s Deputies and Highway Patrolmen involved in a high speed chase on Highway 63 through northern Boone County.

It ended when the suspect, after shooting a highway patrolman’s vehicle multiple times, lost control after law enforcement used a pit maneuver and forced his vehicle into a ditch near Route B and Route P on Highway 63. That’s the Clark Exit.

The suspect, who was involved in the shooting of two people on Douglass Drive, then took his weapon and used it on himself.

Preliminary information indicates law enforcement did not fire at the suspect

The crash prompted the closure of U.S. 63 in both directions just north of the Boone County-Randolph County just before 2 p.m. Traffic partially reopened about an hour later.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the chase and death of the suspect, while the Boone County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting on Douglas Drive.
