Columbia Doctor Charged in Fraud Case Released on Bond

A Columbia doctor charged in a federal fraud and prescription drug case is out of jail.

Forty-six-year-old Jonathan Morris faces 38 charges, including health care fraud and illegally prescribing controlled substances.

Prosecutors say Morris wrote prescriptions for at least 20 people, including some with whom he had sexual relationships or known substance abuse issues.

A judge ordered his release Monday, saying the government did not prove he posed an ongoing danger.

Morris must give up his DEA prescribing license, surrender his passport, and wear an ankle monitor while the case moves forward.
