Huff vigil held, scholarship started

The Immanuel Baptist Church of Moberly hosted a candlelight vigil for Kayla Huff and her family on Saturday evening. The 16-year-old girl was found dead Wednesday in the Rudolf Bennitt Conservation area..

Family, friends, and community members gathered to pray and pay their respects. Huff was a sophomore at Moberly High School.

Meanwhile, some parents within the Moberly School District are starting a memorial scholarship for Huff.

Moberly School Board Vice President Heather Cleavinger said parents and kids alike came to her wanting to do something.

The scholarship idea came to mind, and it will be awarded to a student from Huff’s class in 2028. While the scholarship is still in the early stages, the goal is to award at least $1,000. As of Sunday evening, about $330 have already been collected.
