Former Mexico Fire Chief Sues for Wrongful Termination

A lawsuit has been filed alleging the wrongful termination of for Little Dixie Fire Chief Eric Hartman.

The suit was filed last month and says on Hartman’s behalf that he was terminated due to whistleblower retaliation.

Hartman and his representative allege that another employee was using a fire district sales tax exemption letter for personal purchases.

The lawsuit also alleges that Little Dixie was illegally holding meetings outside the district, that the “opt out” system for fire district tax collection was violating state law, and that Little Dixie’s planned purchase of land from board secretary-treasurer Kenneth Hoover would create public safety concerns.

The petition requests $25,000 in damages on each count and the reinstatement of Hartman as fire chief.
