The Mexico Bulldogs battled through a wet and soggy Monday night in Mexico and came away with a 3-2 victory over the Winfield Warriors in the opening round of district baseball play.
Mexico ace Brady Fox turned in a complete-game performance on the mound for the Bulldogs, recording all 21 outs while striking out eight batters.
Fox allowed just five hits and two runs only one earned in the district win.
The Bulldogs found the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning after Brayden Arnold delivered an RBI single to break a 2-2 tie.
Winfield jumped out early in the top of the first inning as Brady Cappel singled to center field and Mexico committed an error to give the Warriors a 2-0 advantage.
Mexico answered in the bottom of the third when Fox ripped a double down the left field line to tie the game at two.
The Bulldogs finished with nine hits on the night. Pearson Kleinsorge paced Mexico offensively with three hits in three at-bats, while Arnold added two hits. Fox also drove in two runs for the Bulldogs.
Daniel Warren took the loss for Winfield after pitching six innings and allowing three runs, two earned. Timothy Emmons led the Warriors offensively with two hits.
With the win, the Bulldogs advance in district tournament action.
MHS will play at home on Wednesday against Fulton.
The Hornets advanced on the other side of the bracket, #2 Fulton won with a 1-0 shutout of Wright City.
in the Class 4 District 8 play-in game, #4 Marshall beat #5 Hallsville, 3-2. The Owls will play #1 seed Moberly on Wednesday night.
In the other game #3 Boonville shut out #6 Kirksville 9-0, the pirates will play #2 seed Southern Boone on Wednesday night

The Missouri Tigers will face the No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels today, first pitch set for 9:30 AM in the opening round of the SEC Baseball Tournament.
The single-elimination game is being played at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama, and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.
Missouri will start right-handed ace Josh McDevitt (94 strikeouts this season). Ole Miss counters with left-hander Wil Libbert, a former Missouri Tiger.
Ole Miss earned the No. 9 seed after finishing 36-20 (15-15 SEC). Missouri sneaks in as the No. 16 seed with a 23-30 (6-24 SEC) record.
