The game was locked in a 4-4 tie heading into the top of the ninth inning. Evan Carter kicked off the frame with a leadoff walk against Cardinals reliever Riley O’Brien, advancing to third base on a wild pitch and a subsequent single by Kyle Higashioka.
Joc Pederson broke the deadlock by driving a tiebreaking RBI single into left-center field.
Josh Jung quickly followed with another RBI single, and Brandon Nimmo brought home the final run of the night on a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 7-4
Cardinals starter Dustin May struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings but allowed three runs.
