A former nonprofit executive is facing a felony theft charge in Cole County.
A grand jury has indicted 58-year-old Stacy Stafford, the former CEO of People Helping Paws Dog Rescue, for allegedly stealing more than $3,900 from the organization.
According to court documents, the charity’s vice president contacted Jefferson City police after Stafford was removed from her position and a vendor reported a large unpaid debt.
Investigators say they discovered multiple payments from the nonprofit’s account had been transferred into Stafford’s personal bank account.
Stafford is scheduled to be arraigned July 13 in Cole County.
