CPS Reviews Budget Deficit

The Columbia Public School Board is reviewing a proposed budget that would spend about $11.7 million more than the district expects to bring in next year.

During a public hearing Wednesday, district leaders presented a nearly $391 million spending plan for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Officials say the district will need to use reserve funds to cover rising costs, while uncertainty remains over state education funding.

School leaders also emphasized maintaining employee benefits to support staff recruitment and retention.

The Board of Education is expected to consider final budget approval later this month before the new fiscal year begins.
