The Missouri Supreme Court has denied the state’s appeal for a ruling last week that tweaked the ballot language of the Amendment 5 proposal.
The proposal’s goal is to phase out income tax and give the state power to raise sales tax to make up for the loss.
On Friday, the a Missouri Appellate Court rewrote the language in the proposal, particularly pertaining to the summary. It said that if sales tax was dramatically increasing, local tax rate cuts would be required as well, notably without cutting school funding.
It only took the length of the weekend for the State to appeal the rewrite, but the Supreme Court made their decision today to proceed with the tweak in language.
The proposal is due to be on the ballot in August.
