Columbia Woman Pleads Guilty in PPP Fraud Case

A Columbia woman has pleaded guilty in federal court to her role in a fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program loan scheme.

Forty-five-year-old Lakeysha Day admitted to wire fraud after prosecutors said she falsely claimed to operate a business with an average monthly payroll of $8,000 in order to obtain a PPP loan.

According to court documents, the false application resulted in a $20,000 loan being wired to her in March 2021.

Day now faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

A sentencing date has not yet been set and will be scheduled following a presentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.
