A Moberly man has pled guilty to stealing $284,000 in COVID relief funds.
Steven W. Hendren admitted to posing as a landlord while filling out applications for rent assistance from the Missouri Housing Development Commission in 2021.
Hendren reportedly created fake financial reports and lease agreements. He reportedly spent much of the money that the the MDHC sent him by buying a new car.
He will be sentenced on September 8th and will have to repay the full $284,000 amount.
He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 maximum fine.
