Two Columbia men received probation today in connection to a shooting in 2024.
21-year-old Tavion Johnson and 22-year-old Daevion McCray were originally charged with murder in the shooting death of Orion Moody in 2024, but they each pleaded guilty in April to a count of assault and a count of unlawful use of a weapon, while the murder charges were dismissed.
Court records report that one of the factors in Judge Joshua Devine’s decision was that there was no proof that Johnson or McCray fired a weapon the night of the incident, and that the two have each been in custody for about 20 months.
Johnson and McCray both received 5 years of supervised probation with a suspended imposition of prison sentence.
