Amazon and local groups are clashing over a planned data center in Montgomery County following the company’s announcement of a $10 million investment in the project.
Amazon held a community Q&A Tuesday where roughly 75 residents asked questions about water use, energy demand, and environmental impact, while company representatives highlighted planned community investments and infrastructure funding.
Outside the event, the Missouri Rural Crisis Center held a news conference, citing survey results it says show nearly 85% of respondents oppose the project and warning of impacts to farmland and local resources.
Supporters of the project say it will bring economic development, while opponents argue it is moving too quickly and without enough public input.
The project has already received county tax incentives, and a lawsuit challenging the approval process is scheduled to return to court in August.
