Mexico Man Arrested in New Stabbing Case Monday Night

A Mexico man has been arrested in connection to a stabbing that occurred on Monday morning.

The Mexico Public Safety Department responded to the 700 block of Singleton and found a victim with a stab wound in their chest. The victim was airlifted to University Hospital and is now reportedly in stable condition.

Witnesses reported that 42-year-old Darrell R. Smith went to the house and got into an altercation, stabbing the victim and fleeing the scene. Officers later found Smith in the 1200 block of north Washington Street and arrested him without incident.

They reportedly found a box cutter on his person with blood on it.

Smith has been charged with Second Degree Assault and Armed Criminal Action.

He is being held in the Audrain County Jail without bond.
