Man Leads Boone County Authorities on Chase, Meth Found in Pockets

A Columbia man was arrested yesterday for allegedly leading officers on a chase and later being found with meth.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on 39-year-old Joseph D. Richards for having expired plates on his motorcycle, but he reportedly sped off at speeds of more than 90 mph on 35 mph roads.

Court documents state that an officer used his vehicle to immobilize the motorcycle, at which point Richards fell off and briefly fled on foot. Upon arresting him, authorities found 15 grams of methamphetamine in his pockets.

He was charged with Aggravated Fleeing a Stop or Detention, Armed Criminal Action, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Resisting / Interfering with Arrest for a Felony.

Richards was booked into Boone County Jail and is being held without bond.
