Columbia Man Arrested on Gun and Drug Charges After Police Search
A Columbia man is behind bars after police served a search warrant to discover a stolen firearm and drugs at his home.
Authorities searched 67-year-old Richard Sponseller’s residence on Thursday, July 2nd, due to him being a felon in possession of a firearm. Upon executing the search, the officers found a Taurus Spectrum Handgun which was determined to have been stolen from the Columbia Police Department.
Sponseller is currently on felony probation and parole, according to court documents.
Furthermore, the officers found 2 grams of methamphetamine, as well as multiple pills containing controlled substances.
Sponseller was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Receiving Stolen Property, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Armed Criminal Action.
He is being held in the Boone County Jail without bond.
