Double Murder Convict Dies

An inmate serving a life sentence for a high-profile double murder has died.

The Missouri Department of Corrections says 81-year-old Robert Campbell died of apparent natural causes Friday morning at University Hospital in Columbia.

Campbell was convicted in 2016 for orchestrating the 2011 killings of Russell and Rebecca Porter in southwest Missouri.

Investigators said the couple was murdered during a family dispute over real estate, and their bodies were later found buried in rural Taney County.

Campbell had been serving a life sentence at the Jefferson City Correctional Center.
