Kehoe Signs Law for Oversight Committee on MSHSAA

Governor Mike Kehoe signed a law yesterday creating an oversight committee for the appeals process of the Missouri State High School Activities Association, or MSHSAA for short.

Senate Bill 863 establishes the Interscholastic Athletic Oversight Commission within the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which will be a five-member committee appointed by the governor.

Kehoe said that the committee will make MSHSAA’s appeals process more transparent, while MSHSAA has generally opposed the idea of an oversight process from the state.

The commission will mostly be in place to hear arguments involving contest procedures and student transfer eligibility. Its decisions will be final and binding on state activities associations.
