Mexico Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 300 block of Orange Street on Saturday at around 11:40 a.m.
Upon arrival, they found flames coming out of the back of the house and managed to extinguish them, but the back section of the residence had significant fire damage and the rest of the house had significant smoke damage.
A cat died as a result of the fire but no other injuries were reported.
Investigation indicated the fire started near some candle making equipment the resident had just used before going outside.
