The Boone County Health Department has announced that there have been eight reported cases of cyclosporiasis this week.
Cyclosporiasis is a gastrointestinal illness caused by the parasite known as cyclospora, and symptoms can include frequent diarrhea, weight loss, bloating, nausea and fatigue, and start about a week after exposure.
The Health Department says that a risk of exposure can be reduced by thoroughly washing produce under clean, running water, even if the produce is labeled as pre-washed.
The Boone County Health Department is working with the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services to see if it is connected to the national Cyclosporiasis outbreak.
Visit a clinician if you’re experiencing prolonged or watery diarrhea, especially if it lasts more than a few days, the Health Department said in a report from KOMU.
