Audrain County Begins Effort to Manage Feral Cats

A new effort to manage Audrain County’s growing feral cat population is set to begin this fall.

The Audrain Humane Society is launching a trap-neuter-release program in Mexico, with plans to expand countywide.

The program will trap, spay or neuter, vaccinate, and return feral cats to their colonies to slow population growth.

A community forum about the program and volunteer opportunities is scheduled for August 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. at 211 West Monroe Street.

Organizers say the long-term approach has been successful in other communities.
