Two teenagers are facing murder charges after five members of an Illinois family were killed in what police call a targeted mass shooting.
A 16-year-old boy Ja’ymeir Davis is being prosecuted as an adult, while a 15-year-old girl’s case begins in juvenile court, before a possible transfer to the St. Clair County criminal court.
Police say five people were killed and two others were injured in what investigators describe as a targeted attack at three separate locations.
The two suspects were arrested Sunday after Illinois State Police stopped their vehicle at a state park.
Authorities have not released a motive.
However, it is reported that the girl’s father Marcus May told local media she was angry with family members and allegedly planned the attacks with her boyfriend, Davis.
Davis appeared in court Tuesday on 12 charges, including five counts of first-degree murder, and was ordered held pending trial.
Court documents also allege one victim was killed several days before the weekend shootings.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The suspects are charged in connection with five deaths and multiple injuries.
